About Zone 8
Climate: Short, mild winters with lows from 10°F to 20°F. Freezes are brief and infrequent. Summers are long and often hot.
Geography: The Deep South, Gulf Coast, central Texas, the southern Pacific coast, and parts of the desert Southwest.
Survival: Heat management, water security, and hurricane preparedness are the main concerns. Food grows almost year-round but summer heat can stall production.
Growing season: About 230–270 frost-free days. Cool-season crops can grow through winter; warm-season crops dominate summer.
